Fall Semester 2011 at the Community College of Vermont brings us many things - including higher numbers of Military Connected Students!
According to this week's registration data, we have 350 Military Connected Students. That number is over a 71% increase from last year at this time and an amazing 173% increase from Fall 2009.
Academic Centers with the highest numbers of military connected students are:
1. Winooski (109)
2. St. Albans (53)
3. Rutland (40)
In order to meet the needs of this very important student population, CCV has been expanding their existing services since February of 2011. Some of those services include hiring a full-time Veteran Student Resource Advisor, providing newsletters and a new blog that focuses on military connected student issues, development of a seminar to assist returning veterans with their transition into college, additional veteran's section offerings of the Governor's Career Ready Certificate program, and training development for faculty and staff who work with military connected students. Every CCV Academic Center has a dedicated advisor who works specifically with this population. To find an MCS advisor nearest you, please refer to our webpage at http://www.ccv.edu/veterans_advisors/index.html
The military connected student (MCS) population at CCV is any student who is a current or former military service member regardless of prior deployment status or use of benefits. The MCS population also includes dependents using the Post 9/11 GI Bill.
Stay tuned for future updates as we get this blog off the ground! You are also able to see an overview of our services on our Veterans' Benefits page at http://www.ccv.edu/veterans_benefits/index.html
